C-Sections May Increase the Risk of Diabetes

An exhaustive study that spanned the globe reveals an increased risk, by 20%, a child born by Cesarean section (C-section) will develop type 1 diabetes before turning 15. Headquartered at Queen’s University Belfast, Northern Ireland, the research team reports 2.3 million United Kingdom (UK) citizens are diabetic, 250,000 of whom have type 1, or the most common form of childhood, diabetes. In Northern Ireland, there are 6,000 people diagnosed with type 1 diabetes among 62,000 total diabetics nationwide. Read more
More Expectant Moms Want Elective Cesarean

A survey of registered users at electivecesarean.com found that 56% of expectant mothers want an elective cesarean through their own choice. The majority said that it is because they don’t want to risk physical damage to their body (39.4%), a planned cesarean is preferable to an unpredictable planned vaginal delivery (PVD)(33.6%) and they’ve been put off by previous experience or knowledge of PVD trauma. C-Section Births on the Rise

One in three babies were born via C-section in 2005, which is a dramatic increase from the one in five the number reported in 1995, according to the latest News and Numbers from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Read more
