Maternal Nutrition Has Profound Effects On Infant Health
The link between good nutrition during pregnancy and healthy babies was established many years ago. A new study shows that the nutritional choices made prior to conception can also have profound effects on your baby’s health.
The study, which was published in the current edition of The Journal of Physiology, states that even before conception maternal diet is vital to the health of the next generation. Poor nutrition around the time of fertilization and egg implantation may be detrimental to your child’s health for years to come. Even as the egg first leaves the ovary and begins to mature, it is subject to nutritional deficiencies that can have adverse effects on the unborn child.
The researchers in the study fed female mice a low-protein diet during one three and a half day ovulatory cycle, then let the mice mate. They studied the offspring and the results were significant, with the baby mice suffering from an area of physical problems.
“They were hypertensive, had poorly functioning blood vessels that did not relax properly when treated, had kidneys of abnormal structure and size and exhibited reduced exploratory activity,” said study author Adam Watkins. “These disturbing effects cannot necessarily be extrapolated to the human condition, but do illustrate the need to investigate whether such a link might exist in women.” Without a doubt, a nutritious, well-balanced eating plan can be one of the greatest gifts you give to your soon-to-be-born baby.

I think all of us know the importance of diet during pregnancy but am really amazed to know the importance before or during conception. It is something which might have some logic but still lack of facts or they are hidden.
Thanks for giving such beautiful suggestions regarding maternal diet, omega 6 oils that are so called fatty acids obviously can effect the baby as it cause inflammation, which can be dangerous for those with heart conditions and pregnant ladies as well.So to keep the baby healthy and fit they should have the proper diet during pregnancy because it is well known that smaller babies are more likely to suffer from heart disease, stroke, hypertension and diabetes. More recently, poor nutrition around the time of fertilization and egg implantation have also been shown to be detrimental in adult life.
Hello everyone,
Baby health is so important – we all want to avoid chemicals in our food, milk and our household while being pregnant. It is very important. There are alot of chemicals in skincare today, and pregnant women should only use chemical free or Organic face creams.
Your skin is an organ – that you are sharing with your unborn child. Any chemicals applied to your skin will feed the growth of your child. And please do your research on the internet regarding chemicals in skin care products.
My personal recommendation, is the Made from Earth product line. They are at http://www.madefromearth.com . . .They are completely chemical free and organic, and their products have a shelf life of 6 months, because they are not presevred with chemicals, but they do use quality ingredients. I used their 3 Berry Face Serum while I was pregnant, and its a great face cream I highly recommend.
Best of luck to everyone!
