Promising New Bladder Cancer Treatment Option
Reserachers from the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center of New York Presbyterian Hospital and Columbia Medical Center have released promising findings of the drug Abraxane’s ability to offer alternatives to surgery for bladder cancer patients.
Bladder cancer is the 4th largest cause of cancer in men and the 9th largest cause of cancer among women in the U.S. Currently, the most prevalent treatment option for patients who do not respond to the first line standard of chemotherapy is bladder removal surgery.
The Phase I/II of this study will look at 18 patients for 6 weeks and then another set of 19 patients for another 6 weeks to determine the effectiveness of this drug therapy for patients who have been diagnosed with bladder cancer.
The researchers of this study are optimistic that the drug Abraxane will be able to offer bladder cancer patients an alternative to radical surgery. This study was funded by Abraxis Bioscience of Los Angeles, California.
