Drinking Milk May Ease Hypertension among Women
The Hypertension Journal from the American Heart Association has just published some fascinating findings on the relationship between milk and natural calcium intake, and the possible reduction of hypertension among women.
The study’s findings demonstrate that women who ate diets rich in low fat milk and milk products demonstrated a lower incidence of high blood pressure. The study conducted by Harvard Researchers, examined 30,000 middle aged women.
The study found that women who drank low fat milk twice daily as part of a normal diet were found to have as much as a 10% reduction in the risk for high blood pressure when compared to women who drank milk only on a monthly basis. The researchers did not find the same correlation among women who drank either a higher fat milk or who took vitamin D supplements as a milk substitute.
One in 3 American adults currently has high blood pressure and the incidence has been increasing over the past 10 years, according to a recent study published in the journal of Circulation. Most Americans do not include milk products as a part of their daily diets and as a result, despite the research that links diets that are rich in these nutrients are effective at reducing the effects or incidences of high blood pressure in both men and women. Milk provides the body with several important nutrients including Calcium, Vitamin D, Vitamin A and protein.
