Lipitor and Memory Loss - No Problem
There are about 18 million people taking Lipitor and approximately 2% of them report memory issues while on the medication. That comes out to about 360,000 people being affected with the potential adverse effect.
Doctors have said that the 2% chance of this happening to you is much preferable to the very likely chance of a heart attack or stroke if you don’t take Lipitor or a similar cholesterol-lowering drug as prescribed to you by a doctor.
In a separate, even larger study carried out by Pfizer in August 2006 on nearly 5,000 stroke patients, the company showed that patients taking Lipitor did not report memory loss as a significant problem. Just to drive the point home at just how lightly some of these memory issues are taken by some doctors, Dr. Neil Brooks said “I have no recollection of anyone having memory loss,” Adding, “Of course, it is possible that since I take Lipitor, I do not remember them for that reason,” Simply put it appears that the benefits of Lipitor far outweigh any of the risks.
