Metromint Bottled Water Recall
Med Headlines - Soma Beverage Company, based in San Francisco, California, has voluntarily recalled certain bottles of its popular minty flavored water because of concerns over possible bacterial contamination.
All flavors of Metromint have been recalled. The beverage comes in peppermint, spearmint, orangemint, and lemonmint. This product is sold in grocery stores across the nation and is also available on the internet.
The bottles in question are the 16.9-ounce size with labels that indicate they are best before December 21, 2008. The bottles have the letter M in black on the front and the letters KSA in a rectangle located on the back of the bottle in the label’s lower right-hand corner.
A possible case of contamination by the bacteria Bacillus cereus is under investigation in Illinois. No other incidents are reported at this time.
Symptoms of illness from Bacillus cereus usually begin 30 minutes to as long as six hours after ingesting contaminated food or beverages.
Nausea and vomiting are the first symptoms associated with illness. The vomiting generally subsides within 24 hours.
Watery diarrhea and abdominal cramping can also be associated with contamination by this particular bacterium. These symptoms often begin six to 15 hours after consumption of contaminated food or beverages.
